Welcome to CSD 2022-23---Introduce Yourself

Hello! My name is Daren Schwartzkopf. I just transferred to middle school from teaching 5th grade. I will be teaching Coding and Flight for 7th and 8th grade. I am very excited for this change and am ready for the challenge!

I made a similar switch about 8 years ago! Best move I made! Glad to have you join the forum.

Hello,
I am Stephanie Ewald and I teach at Highlands Middle School in KY. My principal told me about Code.org when she thought it would help me teach Coding for the school year 23-24. I am not part of the cohort. I am still learning about coding through the online PD. Not sure if this program will work best. I will only have my students for 1 Quarter. I would like to only do Unit 3, but not sure if I can skip units. Unit 3 looks like it would take one quarter to teach.

Thank you very much, Ms. Davis. I look forward to talking with everybody and learning together.

Hello, everyone! I am Tiffany Mounts. I teach middle school science and STEM courses in West Virginia. During an AVID summer institute when I was taking the Coding with Amazon course, I learned about code.org. I am excited to get to learn more about the tools I can use to help my students understand coding.

Hello - Cate from Maryland. Currently recovering from a concussion and COVID, so I’m entertaining myself by reviewing next year’s curriculum instead of building rockets at the WRATS program. :frowning:

Hello! I am so excited to be teaching my first ever Computer Science class! I have been teaching middle school science for the past 15 years and will be switching gears to teach Algebra and computer science this fall. I have used dappled with CS during hour of code in my science classes and with my after-school Girls Who Code club. Cheers! Necole Hanks

Hey, I’m Glenn in Arizona. Working through the online Professional Development!!

Hi, Im Heather. I am completely new to CS.

Hi! I’m Kathryn. I learned about this after receiving an email from our county office of education. I have always enjoyed computer science (coding, in particular). I am not even credentialed to teach this yet, so I belong to zero cohorts. Maybe next year after I get my supplemental???

Thanks for everything! This has been a blast!

Hello!
My name is Adam Pearcy. I teach a 5th/6th combo class at a very small TK-8th school in the Sierra Nevada foothills/mountains. I plan on teaching units 2 and 3 this year.

Hi, my name is Kristy and I learned about about this program from a friend who is a new facilitator for Code.org. I am not a part of a Code.org cohort (not sure I know what that is).

My name is Thea. I am not new to teaching, but I am new to CS. I am looking forward to this new adventure. I will be teaching CS to the sixth graders in my district, as well as other grade levels. I’m not sure where to start.

Hello everyone, my name is Madeline. I am attending my 5-Day Workshop and am so excited to get back home and review and try lessons. (North Carolina)

I’ve just finished attending the CS virtual workshop in Nebraska! Thank you to our facilitators for an information packed week of learning.

I’m Todd from Southwest Nebraska. Just got done with a week long session about code.org. Great stuff. I’m the Tech Director at ESU15 and have been teaching CSFirst with Google for the past few years. I’m excited about implementing the curriculum in my districts. Thanks for being a great resource…not just the whole of code.org but the teacher community here. It makes the dive into this not so scary knowing I have y’all here if I get stuck.

Hi. Just finished CS Discoveries Workshop and looking forward to getting rolling!
