Hello Everyone,

I’m Helen

I am very excited to be taking this journey with each of you. I am an Instructional Coach with Chicago Public Schools. I have reinvented myself for this new career. I worked for 21 years at what started as Western Electric, and later became AT&T Network Systems, then Lucent Technologies, then Alcatel-Lucent. I returned to school and earned two Masters degrees in Educational Leadership and Educational Technology.

I know what tremendous opportunities await our students and I am anxious to support our classroom teachers in preparing students with the skills they will need for “career readiness”.

I am a mother and a grandmother of a 4 year old who is amazing with technology already! These are very exciting times for our children. I can hardly wait to experience what we are going to learn from them!

Hello,

TEACHING
I am Candy and I have been teaching for 23 years at Reynoldsburg High School in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. This was a second career for me. Prior to this I worked for an airline and was in Human Resources at a bank and then a stay-at-home mom for many years. As my daughter began school I realized that I was going to need to continue evolving myself. I went back to college and received my teaching degree and then a few years later, my Masters in Education. I started teaching Family and Consumer Science and once that was phased out I turned to social studies. For the last 15 years I have taught U. S. Government to seniors in high school.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
I like to travel when I have time. I also enjoy working in my garden and spending time with my daughter exploring anything that we can find. Taking on different experiences is exciting to me. I am part of a group of women that do crafts and go to different places to explore. I spend my summers getting caught up on DIY projects and cleaning out everything that has been ignored throughout the school year.

ECS EXPERIENCE.
Not very much to share. At this time I have completed one orientation and the first on-line course before attending my first summer in-service. I am looking forward to helping develop the ECS program at our school.

Hello Derek and other ECSers, I expecting great things from this Professional Development and hope to gain some teaching nuances like you.

Greetings from Atlanta, Georgia. I’m Sharon I have a both a Business/Career Technology and Computer Science Teacher. While my undergraduate degree was not in education but in Computer Programming, my first principal felt I could bring a wealth of knowledge to students within my community, so he took a chance and hired me. This decision of my former principal caused me to teach courses such as Business Computer Applications I and II, Visual Basic, Introduction to Digital Technology (formerly Computing in the Modern World), Beginning Programming and Intermediate Programming. I’m looking forward to stretching my mind and my students with the best practices and strategies from educators through ECS and its curriculum

Hey everybody! I’m Matt Yauk from Cincinnati, Ohio. I currently teach Web Design I & II, Information Technology, Personal Finance, Game Design, and ECS at Oak Hills High School. I’ve also enjoyed starting a number of competitive robotics teams, including 4 middle school FIRST LEGO League teams and a FIRST Robotics Competition at my previous district’s high school and middle schools; working as an e-learning consultant within my school; assisting in the creation of a district-wide tech curriculum; and helping lead PD sessions related to games and gamification of learning. This will be my first year teaching ECS, but I have used CSEdWeek’s materials, the Hour of Code, and the 20-hour Intro Course in my classroom in the past (mainly in Computer Applications, grades 6-8).

When not educating, I do freelance web and graphic design, play fantasy football, and read (currently on A Curious Mind by Brian Grazer - I highly recommend it!)
