ECS Forum Introductions (15-16 school year)

Teaching Experience
I started the business program at Shenandoah Middle School in 1974. When the computers came into the scene, there were no computers in my school but I was intrigued by this new invention and wanted to know more about it. That was the right decision. I then transferred to Miami Senior High in 1980 and have taught different courses in the Business Technology Department ever since.
Hobbies and Interests
I enjoy traveling, painting, action movies and experiencing new adventures with my family.
Experience with ECS
This coming school year, 2015-2016, will be the first year we teach ECS and I am looking forward to replacing the current Intro to Information Technology class with ECS.

Hello! My name is Kristen Listerman and I’m from Cincinnati, OH. I will be starting my 16th year of teaching. I currently work for Oak Hills High School. I teach Personal Finance I & II, Microsoft Office Applications, and am the International Studies Pathway Capstone (Independent Study Course) Coordinator. I serve as a member of our school’s ISSN Asia Society, working to globalize learning in the classroom to create a more globally-competent student. This will be my first year teaching ECS and I’m looking forward (and am grateful for) the extensive PD training.

In my free time, I am a soccer mom running my 3 kids to and from practices and games. I love reading but only manage to do it in the summers (about a book a week) and enjoy crafting with my kids.

Hi Jillian:

Your job description seems very interesting.

Congratulations,

Maggie Gutierrez

Hi my name is Mike. I am a first year teacher at a charter located in San Pedro, CA. I just received my Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics from California State University of Long Beach last Fall and was lucky enough to find a great place to work during the following Spring semester of 2015. At this school I teach Integrated Math 1 and Integrated Math 2 to a class of 9th graders. Next year I will be teaching the same students in the 10th grade. These classes will include Integrated Math 2, Integrated Math 3, and PreCalculus along with Exploring Computer Science.

My hobbies mostly involve music. I am a guitar player and love a wide range of styles. Some of my favorites to listen to and play are jazz, funk, classic rock, and R&B.

I forgot my hobbies, learning things on Pintrest and trying them. Love dreaming up projects for our yard and house and completing them. Shopping with my mother, fishing with anyone who will go. Addicted to planting and landscaping. Organizing things with my daughter and new addiction of crossfit!

I went to school and got my BA in Business Management not teaching. Came back home and found no jobs! Went to work in the ER as admissions, enjoyed the excitement but soon realized it wasn’t fun working all kinds of hours, holidays and weekends. Strange I didn’t get that when I applied, that hey hospitals don’t close for anything. Lol
Sought out another career change, at a school to become the detention/admin assistant… And that is where I found my love for education. Decided to go back to school got my Masters to teach business and health education. Last two weeks of finishing my Maters Thesis paper, and got a call if I could teach math? Didn’t know I had enough background credits, but I did. Here I am 15 years later still teaching math.
Our district has NO Computer Science courses, and I went to an IETA conference And was inspired to change that and I am ready for change  and to give my kids a chance at a great career.

Hello everyone my name is Lloyd Mann and I just completed my 4th year teaching Chemistry and Physical Sciences at Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am really excited to accept the challenge of building a computer science program at my school and I will be teaching six sections of ECS next year. Before teaching I was a computer programmer and tech support specialist for 15 years at various companies here in Las Vegas. Besides being an avid science nerd I am also a die-hard tech geek and love to delve into computer technologies. Lately I have been exploring home automation with my Amazon Echo and Phillips Hue lights. I also own a plethora of computers and have been diving into learning about Raspberry Pi’s and robotics with Sphero and other mini-robots. In my spare time (what little I have) I am a bookworm reading mainly sci-fi and fantasy plus action adventure novels. I am also a history buff as my undergraduate degree was in US History.

Hi, I am Roberta Butka. I started teaching CS, programming including AP and business courses the last 8 weeks or school in 1994, in Miami-Dade County, FL, after being one of first two computer techs for the entire county when we started the magnet programs for computer science in the middle and high schools. I continued the next four years and then moved to a local private university and developed the online program in CIS. In the years since, I have worn quite a few hats including: web developer, SQL DBA and trainer. After a 16 absence from the classroom, the 2014-15 has brought me back into teaching in a Virtual Learning Lab through Broward County’s Broward Virtual School!

I enjoy gardening (general, butterfly and orchids), reading, crafts but my true passion is photography.

I am looking forward to refreshing CS principles and/or teaching this older girl some new tricks; so you can tell I love dogs too.

Good Day All… I’ve been Matthew Huffine for over 56 years now and have been a science and math teacher for 28 of them, a student for 22 years and a life long learner. Presently my wife and I are learning how to live as grandparents with a newly ā€œemptied nestā€ as our youngest will be off to college this fall to University of Redlands.
